By: Jay Broderick - Tragically, there are some musicians who dwell in the background, and don't get the same fanfare as the lead vocalist, or the shredder on guitar. But it doesn't diminish their contributions. One of the most skilled keyboardists in Rock and Roll is Don Airey, and today, announced his newest solo album Pushed to the Edge, which is due for a March 28 release via earMUSIC.
Don Airey has played with the biggest names in the business including Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, but should most notably be known as the keyboardist for the Godfathers of Heavy Metal themselves, Deep Purple. His sound is unmistakably recognizable, making him a legend, even though you may not recognize his name.

Today, Airey released the first single "Tell Me" from his newest project. You'll recognize this classic Heavy Metal sound as soon as the track kicks off. With vocals that immediately make me think of the legendary Ronnie James Dio, it's a complete throwback. Call me a crotchety old man, but this takes us back to the hay-days of Heavy Metal. The roots are distinct, and it makes me long for the "good old days".
Joining Airey on the new album are vocalists Carl Sentance (Nazareth) and Mitchell Emms (The Voice, UK), fellow Deep Purple band member Simon McBride on guitars, drummer Joe Finnegan and bassist Dave Marks. The album (available on CD, 2LP vinyl, and digital streaming/download) promises raw, straight up rock and roll, with recordings that contain true musicianship.
