The indie music scene, bands that play your local circuit, musicians that literally do it for the true love of the art, and also bands that are looking for a break, and potentially turn some heads. It's all critical to live music, and its importance to our well being.
While we aim to bring you coverage of bands you know and love, we are also dedicated to showcasing new bands, and young artists. As such, we will start a monthly segment entitled "Local Music Spotlight" that will showcase one local(ish) band per month on our pages, in an effort to raise awareness, bring you some new music, and to get you out to your local live music establishments. Who knows, one day you may be able to look back and say "WOW! I remember when those guys first started!!"
The Minimum Wage
The Minimum Wage is a 5-piece indie punk/rock outfit from Niagara, Ontario, 130km south of the big city. The band released their first EP Small Stakes in 2022 on Swear Word Records, and independent record label, melding perfectly with the band. Since the first recording, The Minimum Wage has continued to play live shows, bringing their style to the ears of the wanton.
Now, after writing and performing some new material, the band scratched the itch, and headed back into the studio to record 6 new tracks. On March 8, 2024, the band released the first of their new recordings. The 2 and a half minute "Everyone Is" is a track about the daily grind of shit we're all subjected to. The challenge is, how do you deal with it? Do you let it eat you alive, or do you trudge on? The track catches your ear from the opening licks. It's a post punk burner with an alt-pop, up beat rhythm that will have your feet tapping and your head nodding. Depending on what side of the fence you're hanging out at, you'll find yourself singing along and gaining that all important boost to pick yourself up off the ground, brush yourself off, and move on!
