By: Michael Drukarsh - 2025 has been a rough year for heavy metal fans. Our heroes are getting older, as we all are, and the time has come to say good-bye to many. With the loss of Ozzy Osbourne on July 22, followed by Ace Frehley on October 16, I thought it might be nice to share some Ozzy and Ace gift ideas to help make the holidays a little brighter. After all, they may have left us but thankfully the music they created will live on forever.

Books

Let's start with books. Both Ozzy and Ace have several books out about them, some autobiographical other biographies of the authorized and unauthorized kind. Here are my two recommendations:

Ozzy Osbourne: Diary of a Madman 1984 (Stephen Ray and Mick Wall)

ree

While this book is getting harder to find, if you can get your hands on it, it is a fantastic read. Released in 1984, it focuses on Ozzy’s first few years after Sabbath as he starts his journey to establish himself as a solo act. It covers his early life as well as the formation of his first solo band including his meeting with and immediate bond with Randy Rhoads. The book has an incredible photo section sharing moments in Ozzy's life from a young John Osbourne to his marriage to Sharen Arden. Thankfully, Ozzy’s career went far beyond 1984’s Bark at the Moon and there are several newer books out that cover his past as well as the years beyond 1984, but any Ozzy fan who unwraps this will definitely be jolly and holly.

No Regrets: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Memoir 2011 (Ace Frehley, Joe Layden, John Ostrosky)

ree

Looking back on Ace’s life, No Regrets takes the reader all the way back to when a young Paul Frehley got his first guitar for Christmas. From there we join the Space Man on a wild rocket ride through gang fights, hippy bands and into what would become the hottest band in the world, Kiss. Also included is his post Kiss solo career and a great collection of photos.

Music

Ozzy and Ace have very extensive catalogues both as solo artists and as members of iconic bands. Honestly, pretty much any selection you make will be the right one, but for me these two offerings capture the essence of both artists at their rawest!

Ace Frehley Solo album

ree

Released September 18, 1978 as part of a marketing campaign that featured a solo album from all four members of Kiss released on the same day, Ace’s album far exceeds the rest of the band’s efforts both in sales and expectations. While “Back in the New York" stands out as the big hit, songs such as "Ozone", "Snow Blind" and the instrumental “Fractured Mirror” prove that Ace was the rock and roll beating heart of Kiss.

Ozzy Osbourne: Diary of A Madman

ree

Released October 1981, it is the second solo album for the Prince of Darkness and many say his peak. From Randy Rhoads’ incredible guitar work and solos to Bob Daisley's haunting lyrics and of course Ozzy’s one of a kind vocals, D.O.A.M is just a perfect record from start to finish. But be aware, you do not want to pick up the 2002 copy as the album was re-recorded with Robert Trujillo on bass and Mike Bordin on drums. They replaced the original performances by Bob Daisley on bass and Lee Kerslake on drums. The 2011 reissue is when the history books were reset properly.

Cute and Cuddly

Who doesn’t want a soft cuddly stuffy to keep them company by the fire? Like so many other artists, both Ozzy and Ace have several toys and action figures put out into the market in their likeness, but not many can claim to have a cute cuddle bear or bat for the discerning fan of any age.

The Space Bear made its appearance as the title for track number 8 on 2009’s Anomaly album, as an instrumental piece. Of course, someone had to take that idea and run with it. Now you too can own your very own Space Bear (marketed under Kiss Panda) to hold and love.

Ozzy always joked that despite all of his accomplishments, he can guarantee his tombstone will read “Here Lies Ozzy Osbourne, He Bit the Head off a Bat”. So of course they had to make the Ozzy Osbourne plush bat with a removable head. Not sure how cute and cuddly this might be but you can find the genuine article at Ozzy’s official website.

Action Figures

For the more adult toy… I mean action figure collectors... there are many options out there for collectible figurines, especially for Ace, who along with the rest of the band have had tons of versions out on the market. These two choices, for me, are the classic representation of both Ozzy and Ace.

From the TV ads to the in store marketing machine, nothing screams Kiss and more specifically, Ace Frehley than the original Mego 1976 doll. Definitely on the collectors side of gift giving, the Ace Mego doll is getting harder to find, especially with all of his space man accessories like arm and leg cuffs and the cut out guitar from the back of the packaging.

Although Blizzard of Ozz came out in 1981 (in the US), it took until 2000 for someone to recreate that Ozzy classic look in doll form. Standing at a whopping 18”, the highly collectible Ozzy Osbourne Blizzard of Ozz Doll has very lifelike features including his trade mark tattoos. Dressed in his white jumpsuit and red cape and carrying a giant cross, the doll does not only look impressive, but it also sings Crazy Train when you press its stomach.

For That #1 Fan

While there are some pretty hard to find, perhaps even rare items above, between a variety of different markets, you should be able to find what you are looking for and the prices are pretty reasonable. These next two items however are near impossible to get now, and if you do find it, as you can see, you will definitely be paying a premium.

Check out reverb.com where you can find a Gibson KISS Ace Frehley Les Paul custom shop aged budokan pickguard autographed signed 2011 - Aged relic’ed sunburst cherry burst clown burst in used, but according to them, in excellent condition. For the low low price of C$50,541.82 you can own a piece of Ace Frehley history that, unfortunately, you know can never be replicated.

Items autographed by Ozzy have, understandably, gone up in price. But, buying a guitar with an Ozzy signature just doesn’t seem right. For the truly dedicated fan, getting your hands on See You on the Other Side V.2.0 is the ultimate gift. This set is the complete works of Ozzy’s solo career in a limited edition, numbered black vinyl box. Only 2000 copies were made with the box containing a total of 18 albums, rarities, brand new posters, vintage photos, a gold bat vinyl slipmat and an individually numbered vellum certificate of authenticity personally signed by Ozzy. Even if the Ozzy fan in your life has aloof the individual albums, getting the whole package is something that just screams Ultimate Ozzy Fan. You can find these on a variety of markets but they are getting harder to come across and the price has risen to over C$1500.

So, there you have it. A perfect way for you or the one you love to pay tribute to our rock and roll heroes. And if these don’t grab you by the chestnuts, there are socks and undies, t-shirts and shorts, and a whole lot of other merch you can purchase for stocking stuffers, under the tree, or around the menorah. Just remember to buy licensed products!

Happy holidays from all of us at LOUDTO! Let’s make 2026 even LOUDER!
