Niagara Falls, Canada - Since their 1974 Eurovision win, ABBA have sold over 400 million albums and released music as recently as December of 2018. They remain one of the most popular bands in the world to this day.
ABBA Revisited is North America’s #1 ABBA tribute band and I experienced their show and photographed them at the Avalon Theatre, Fallsview Casino on May 24th, and I have to say that it was an absolutely superb show filled with fun, dancing and wonderful performances.
From the opening notes of "Mama Mia", they literally did not stop for the full 90 minutes. The lead vocals were spot on in my opinion, and captured Agnetha and Anni-Frid's signature sound, transporting the audience back to the 1970’s. The show featured seamless costume changes (I think I counted 4 different outfits) and many fantastic renditions of all of ABBA’s biggest hits. "SOS", "Waterloo", "Lay All Your Love on Me" and more.
I think what really set this performance apart was the sheer attention to details from the amazing costumes to the seamless choreography clearly showed that this band has done its research and has established itself as North Americas #1 Abba Tribute Band.
The show is packed with audience interaction, with ‘Agnetha’ and ‘Anni-Frad’ coming down from the stage and involving the more than willing audience members in the fun.
The setlist was expertly curated, covering all the major hits like the aforementioned "Mamma Mia", "Money, Money, Money" and "The Winner Takes It All" as well as some delightful deep cuts such as "Chiquitita" and "Does Your Mother Know".
The band’s energy matched the lead singer’s, and each member delivered enthusiastic and wholly authentic performances. This talented group of performers brought the iconic Swedish quartet's music to life in a way that was nothing short of amazing and that dedication really came through in every note.
Large screens behind the band show various clips of ABBA footage as well as lyrics from the songs for the audience to sing along to. Spotlights highlight the action and add to the spectacle as well as timed blasts of smoke go off at key moments adding to the action.
All night long, the audience seemed fully entranced by the on stage performances, dancing and singing along and as the ABBA tribute band closed out their encore with a dazzling performance of "Dancing Queen", complete with sparkling costumes and balloons, everybody honestly just went wild and began dancing in the aisles as the band perfectly captured the magic of the Swedish group's iconic hit.
If you're an ABBA fan, or simply a lover of great music, do not miss the opportunity to experience this incredible tribute act. They are a true homage to the original.
I grew up in England watching both the Eurovision Song Contest and ABBA on national TV and these performers literally had me believe I was watching the real ABBA on stage. Seamless!
I can't wait to see and photograph them again and to relive the magic of this show.
